TOUCH ME NOT

Touch Me Not

2018

This series is inspired by the longing for a balance between human beings and the environment we live in, especially with nature. In some pieces nature protects, envelopes, and creates a blanket of safety, and in some others the human body is seen as a surreal extension of plants, flowers, and the universe. The ideas for the collection started blooming last monsoon in Goa, with deep pools of water and sheets of rain as motivation. The idea to exhibit at a plant nursery was a dream Laila Vaziralli had when the collection started shaping up, nurseries and garden centres are her happy place and the work feels like it is growing out of the plants. She believes art should be taken out of the gallery environment now and then, to make the experience of viewing more engaging and fun.
